About The Church

The first "Church of God" in Indiana was organized in 1927 in Shelburn, a small town in southwestern Indiana.
The church remained in this section of the state until 1940, when the state offices were moved to La Porte, a city in the North Central Region of Indiana.

In 1946, the Church of God became a state wide organization with 23 churches from South Bend in the North to Evansville in the South, and from Richmond in the East to Terre Haute in the West.

The most exciting period of growth took place during the second
20 year span. By 1966 there were 72 churches organized!
Also in 1966, a new state office building was constructed in Greenwood,IN as well as 2 parsonages to house the state officials.

Currently there are 92 organized churches and 4 mission works in the state of Indiana. Membership has risen to approximately 14,000 members state wide. Of the aforementioned churches and missions works, 6 are organized Hispanic churches and 2 are Hispanic missions. To God be the Glory for the tremendous growth the church of God has experienced in Indiana.
